From Manhattan – Northern State:
Midtown Tunnel to 495 East (Long Island Expressway) to signs for Grand Central Parkway East. Grand Central becomes Northern State Parkway. Take Northern State East for 30 miles to end. Merge with Route 454 in Hauppauge. Continue on Route 454 for 3 miles – bear left at Route 347 East (Nesconset Highway) for 8 miles. Go Left on Route 112 NORTH to Port Jefferson. Go Right at blinker light on Main Street/harbor – bear right, Danford’s Inn is on the left, next to the Port Jeff/Bridgeport Ferry.
From LaGuardia Airport:
Follow as above on Grand Central Parkway to Northern State Parkway.
From Manhattan – Long Island Expressway:
Midtown Tunnel to 495 East (Long Island Expressway) to Exit 62 NORTH (County Road 97/Nichols Road). Follow County Road 97 North 8 miles to end – passing SUNY at Stony Brook. Bear right at railroad bridge onto Route 25A East, through Setauket, then into Port Jefferson. Danford’s Inn is on the left, next to the Port Jeff/Bridgeport Ferry.
From Kennedy Airport:
Follow Belt Parkway to Southern State Parkway East to Sagtikos Parkway NORTH. Take Long Island Expressway (495) East as above.
From Islip-MacArthur Airport:
When exiting the Airport, turn left at the first traffic light onto Route 454. Continue on Route 454 following signs for Sunrise Highway (Route 27). Stay on the Service Road and exit at sign for Nichols Road North (Route 97). Continue on Route 97 North to the very end of the road. This should take 15 minutes. Once you pass under the train trestle, you will bear right onto Route 25A heading East. Stay on Route 25A, passing through the town of Setauket to Port Jefferson. Once in Port Jefferson, you will pass the Port Jeff/Bridgeport Ferry on the left side, and Danford’s Inn is immediately on your left.
Travel Pros & Cons:
Taking Bridgeport Connecticut Ferry vs. driving to LI:
Pros: You’ll get to L.I. faster by taking the ferry, without the hassle of traffic. Traffic can significantly lengthen your travel and varies, depending on time of day & potential car accidents. Ferry will take roughly 1.5 hours.
Cons: You’ll have to pay an additional fee for the ferry. $53.00 – one way, including driver. $15.00 for each additional person. http://www.88844ferry.com/Rates.aspx
